Editorial Guidelines
Last updated: October 2026
The Public Points is an independent digital journalism platform committed to delivering accurate, fair, and responsible news coverage. These editorial guidelines define the standards our journalists and contributors are expected to uphold.
Our Editorial Mission
We exist to give a voice to those who cannot speak for themselves — reporting stories that matter to common people across India with transparency and integrity. Our journalism is independent and not influenced by political parties, government bodies, or corporate advertisers.
Accuracy & Fact-Checking
- All facts, claims, and statistics in our articles must be verified with at least one credible source before publication.
- We cross-reference information from multiple independent sources for significant claims.
- Official statements, government data, and institutional reports are cited with links or references wherever possible.
- Unverified information is clearly labeled as "unconfirmed," "alleged," or "according to [source]."
Fairness & Impartiality
- We present multiple perspectives on issues, particularly in political and social reporting.
- Individuals and organizations named in critical reporting are given a reasonable opportunity to respond before publication.
- Our editorial coverage is not influenced by the interests of our advertisers.
- Opinion articles and analysis are clearly distinguished from factual news reporting.
Independence
The Public Points editorial team operates independently from its advertising and commercial operations. Advertisers have no influence over editorial decisions, story selection, or the content of news articles. Our news agenda is driven by public interest, not commercial interest.
Sourcing Standards
- Named sources are always preferred. Anonymous sources are used only when the information is in the public interest and cannot reasonably be obtained any other way.
- The reason for granting anonymity is considered and documented internally.
- We do not publish content based solely on social media posts or unverified viral content without independent verification.
Corrections Policy
We are committed to correcting errors promptly and transparently:
- If a factual error is identified in a published article, a correction notice is added to the article clearly marking what was changed and when.
- Significant errors may result in a standalone correction notice.
- We do not silently delete or alter articles to hide errors.
To report an error, contact us at publicprolepoints@gmail.com with the article URL and the specific correction needed.
Sponsored & Promoted Content
Any sponsored, promoted, or paid content on The Public Points is clearly labeled as such and is visually distinct from editorial content. Our editorial team does not write sponsored articles.
Hate Speech & Sensitive Reporting
- We do not publish content that promotes hatred based on religion, caste, gender, ethnicity, or any other protected characteristic.
- Reporting on sensitive topics (suicide, sexual violence, communal tensions) follows established Indian Press Council guidelines.
- We take special care to protect the identity of minors and victims of crime.
